Before being a photographer I worked as an Urban Designer/Developer in Rio de Janeiro and the Netherlands. In both countries I saw that many of the social, economical and environmental issues taking place in our living environment were not seen or just seen in one perspective. My choice to become an urban developer came from my interest in these issues, but I ended up spending more time in an office then actually working in the field, while my heart was in the field.
While studying Urban squatters in Rio de Janeiro in 2013, I picked up a camera for the first time. In the years that followed I leaned while doing, setting up my first personal projects TEAM, The Other Seleção and Green Gold, while working in the festival and event business. A life on the road all the time.
In 2018 this shifted. An ankle injury made it hard for me to stand on my feet and being a mom gave my own life a new perspective. Since sitting still is not in my blood I used this year to set up Billie Wonder, a webshop for washable diapers. Because I strongly believe they should be our status quo, because they’re better for our children and the world we leave them behind.
Today both my son and I are walking very well, so time and freedom are back on my hands again. Diving back into the world of documentary, reportage and portraits. My current personal project? Surprise, it’s about diapers and their footprint on our environment. Hope to show the first images in the beginning of 2019.
